Sharks' Murray signs with PHCC
Nature Coast senior pitcher/catcher Travis Murray, who started behind the plate (and called the pitches) when he wasn't on the mound, has signed with Pasco-Hernando Community College, Sharks coach Bob Shepard confirmed.
The Sharks' top hitter this season (.586, 25 RBIs), Murray finished 5-3 with a 1.93 ERA. Two of his three losses were to Class 4A region finalist Pasco.
Shepard also said second baseman Kenny Treverton, a .389 hitter as a senior, has not signed with PHCC, but will attend the school and play for the Conquistadors. Treverton was successful on all 21 of his stolen-base attempts in 2008.

Pirates expand their dimensions
For anyone who has driven by Pasco's ballpark — a.k.a. Death Valley — on a recent afternoon and wondered why it's empty during a playoff week, we here at The Hub have excavated the answer:
The Pirates are practicing at Saint Leo.
The reason: Southard Stadium, Saint Leo's on-campus ballpark, has dimensions (325 feet down the leftfield line, 404 feet to dead center) more similar to the vast Azalea
Bowl, where the Pirates travel to play Palatka in a best-of-three region championship series starting Friday.
"No other park's going to be as small as our park," coach Ricky Giles said.
