On the web: Baseball blogapalooza

In addition to our live scoreboards for today's region baseball finals, head over to our blog for updates on all the area teams in action. Stellar pitching performances,

lead changes, general quirkiness — we'll have it all covered at highschool.tampabay.com.

SPC baseball coach has stepped down

St. Petersburg Catholic baseball coach Charlie Guastella has resigned after seven seasons, athletic director John Gerdes said.

"I have deep appreciation for the commitment and loyalty Coach Guastella has provided at St. Petersburg Catholic," Gerdes said in an e-mail. "He leaves our program in good shape and he has provided me with some sound advice on how we can improve the program further. His contributions to St. Petersburg Catholic High School should be applauded."

Guastella went 101-80 overall, including 12-13 this season.

Canterbury seeks baseball coach

Canterbury athletic director Dave Smith said the school needs a varsity baseball coach. Bob Hamilton resigned midway through this past season. John Lancaster took over on an interim basis and guided the Crusaders to a district title and their third straight playoff appearance. Those interested should send a resume and references to davesmith
