Fenlon agrees to walk on at Siena
Talk about being at the right place at the right time. Tampa Prep point guard Conner Fenlon was shooting hoops in the Terrapins' gym in March when Siena coach Fran McCaffery noticed him.
At the time, the Saints were practicing at Tampa Prep to prepare for their NCAA Tournament first- and second-round games. Now Fenlon, the county's assists leader the past two seasons, has accepted an invitation to walk on at Siena, which upset Vanderbilt in its first-round game at the St. Pete Times Forum.
Fenlon visited the school last weekend.
"I like that it's small," he said. "And the coach up there really cares about me. I fell in love with the school and the basketball program."
Fenlon, a 6-foot senior, is the son of Tampa Prep coach Joe Fenlon. He started three years for the Terrapins, averaging 6.0 points and 7.0 assists a game last season.
Had he not picked Siena, he was prepared to attend Florida State and be one of the basketball team's managers.
"He's going into a situation where he'll probably be a practice player at first," Joe Fenlon said. "He may even be a practice player for four years. But he has the opportunity to challenge himself and see what happens."
Add Michigan to McAllister's list
With Alonso standout defensive tackle Demonte McAllister expected to narrow his schools down to five finalists in the next few weeks, the offers keep coming in.
Michigan made an offer to the 6-foot-3, 260-pound rising senior Wednesday. That's the latest in a offer sheet that includes USC, Florida State, Florida, Miami and Nebraska.
Newsome's Lovell commits to SFCC
Newsome senior centerfielder Ethan Lovell has committed to play baseball at South Florida Community College, Wolves coach Zach Walker said Wednesday. Lovell, who hit .403 with 32 runs scored, 24 stolen bases and 19 walks, sparked the Wolves from the leadoff spot. South Florida CC in Avon Park has several alums who made major-league debuts this past season: Blue Jays pitcher Jesse Litsch, Rockies pitcher Darren Clarke and former Durant standout Ryan Raburn of the Tigers.
