Former Central ace Patrick Ryan has had a heck of a start for the Double-A Huntsville Stars. In 11 games and 162/3 innings pitched, Ryan has not allowed a run. During that span, he has given up five hits, walked eight and struck out eight. He is 1-0.
Knights kicker holding out hope
River Ridge kicker Eric Karcinski played three seasons of varsity football and wants to extend his career to college. He has spent the offseason exploring kicking camps, where camp coaches have taken notice and started telling schools about the Royal Knights kicker. Karcinski went 5-of-6 on field goals last season, with his longest at 47 yards. Knowing he needed more exposure, Karcinski attended a kicking camp and a kicking school each run by former Division I kickers. At a camp run by former Rutgers kicker Lee McDonald, Karcinski won the punting competition with punts of 52 and 56 yards. At the Kornblue kicking school run by former Michigan kicker Brandon Kornblue, Karcinski won the field goal competition. The results have led to conversations with FAU, FIU, Alabama-Birmingham, Wofford and Fordham.
National weightlifting competition

Boys and girls will compete in 10 weight classes in two divisions — ninth- and 10th-graders; 11th- and 12th-graders. The top eight finishers in each weight class will be honored, with the winners and runnersup given trophies.
