Two of the bay area's top baseball teams — Brandon and Dunedin — meet tonight in the state semifinals. If you can't make it to Sarasota for the 8 p.m. matchup, head over to blogs.tampabay.com/preps/ where our staff writers will keep you updated on all the action.

Green still looking good at QB

Several college assistants have arrived at Tampa Catholic this spring believing Christian Green would be a receiver in college. But after watching him play, "I think coaches are starting to change their mind that he can play quarterback," TC coach Bob Henriquez said.

For Henriquez, that was never a question. With Green under center, TC played for the Class 2A championship in December before losing to Madison County in the final.

"When it comes down to it, it's about winning. And he's the ultimate winner for our program," Henriquez said.

Green (6-foot-2, 195 pounds) played receiver as a ninth-grader, but had great success last fall at quarterback, earning all-county honors. However, when Doug Williams Jr., a backup quarterback at Jefferson, transferred to TC in January, some thought Green would move back to receiver.

Not so.

"People keep assuming," Henriquez said. "But he gives us the best chance to win (at QB). He's our quarterback. He's very good. It's his team. He's the playmaker."

Three Chiefs pick up offers

Chamberlain has been a regular stop during spring practice for college coaches. At one practice last week, assistants from seven of what Chiefs offensive coordinator Brian Turner described as "top 25 programs" were watching from the sidelines. WR Anthony Williams (6-2, 202) pulled in two offers last week — from Georgia and Marshall and is expected to receive an offer from Ole Miss. "By the time it's all said and done, he's going to have a lot more than that," Turner said. "He's going to be one of the top receivers in the state of Florida." WR Ed Williams (6-1, 185) was offered by Marshall. RB Kenny Allen (5-9, 185) was offered by I-AA Charleston Southern. But, Turner said, "that's just a start for him." Also, QB Dontae Aycock (5-10, 190), who has offers from schools such as USF, Kansas and Illinois, has drawn recent interest from South Carolina, Ole Miss and Ohio State.
