Wharton safety Jairus Jones has received two scholarship offers: one from Florida Atlantic and the other from Nebraska. This might just be the start, Wildcats assistant Craig Rainey said. "He's getting a ton of interest."
With respect to FAU, the Nebraska offer is more significant. That's because of the program's prestige and first-year Huskers coach Bo Pelini, considered one of college football's brightest defensive minds.
FAU coach Howard Schnellenberger knows Jones' father, former NFL fullback James Jones, well. In the late 1970s, he tried to recruit Jones to play for the Miami Hurricanes, whom he coached at the time. James Jones instead signed with Florida and in 1982 helped the Gators beat Miami.
Chiefs' Williams lands Ole Miss offer
As expected, high-rising Chamberlain wideout Anthony Williams received a scholarship offer from Ole Miss on Wednesday night, his second SEC offer in the past week. Williams, a Jefferson transfer who had 38 receptions for 388 yards and three touchdowns during his junior season with the Dragons, received offers from Marshall and Georgia within the past two weeks.

Bulls' Townsend ahead of schedule
In recent weeks, King forward Toarlyn Fitzpatrick and Plant guard Sheldon Cooley have started getting their first scholarship offers. Reading about this probably hasn't been too fun for Bloomingdale guard Callum Townsend, who hasn't been able to play since sustaining a torn ACL in his right knee March 15 during a showcase event at Tampa Prep. Like Fitzpatrick and Cooley, the 6-foot-6 Townsend, a rising senior, is a likely Division I player. But because he has been out of commission for a while, his recruitment is in wait-and-see mode.
"The interest is still there," Bulls coach Josh Chapin said. "But people are going to wait and see how his knee responds."
Thus far, it has responded quite well.
Townsend, who averaged a county-best 27 points per game last season, had surgery April 1. Townsend's physical therapist has told Chapin that the Bulls standout is ahead of schedule and should be back to 100 percent by mid September. He's still three or four weeks away from running, but he works out four days a week and has started spot-shooting on the court. Among all the schools recruiting him, Boston University has shown the most interest since the injury.
