Dixon doesn't plan to leave Lakewood

Lakewood's Otis Dixon is one of 38 applicants for the Hernando head football coaching job but now said he doesn't plan to leave the Spartans.

Dixon has led the Spartans since 2005 and guided them to their first winning season in six years with a 6-4 finish. He said he applied for the Hernando job more than a month ago.

The position became available when incoming Hernando principal Ken Pritz told everyone in supplemental positions that they could apply for their jobs again but that those jobs would be posted publicly.

First-year coach Rodney Byrd is leading the Leopards through spring practice, but Hernando is considering the applicants who sent in resumes by Wednesday.

Dixon said he thought the process would have been faster and said he wants to stay now that spring practice has started.

"I have too much time invested in Lakewood to leave," Dixon said.

Clearwater twins sign, will separate

Kristi and Kaitlin Posnak, 6-foot twin volleyball standouts at Clearwater, have signed to play college ball and might play against each other next season.

Kristi signed with Hillsborough Community College, while Kaitlin signed with Polk Community College. HCC and PCC are in the same conference and will meet for the first time in September.

The Posnaks helped lead Clearwater to a 25-5 mark and the conference title.
