Detours: a country in search of direction
On the eve of the election, a reporter and photographer set out for Washington, via America. We tell stories from seven towns, touching on seven issues from politics and real life.
Friday Night Rewind It doesn't matter which team you cheer for. We've got video previews of every high school football program in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco and Hernando County.
Game show themes
These themes are probably going to make some of you have flashbacks to wasted mornings or afternoons spent sprawled in front of the TV.
Val Rogatkin didn't play a game for Calvary Christian his senior season after the Florida High School Athletic Association declared he had used up his eligibility, but that didn't stop the 6-foot-6 guard from landing a full basketball scholarship to Manatee Community College.
Rogatkin, originally from Kazakhstan, moved to the area from Russia in January 2007. He came to Calvary for the fall 2007 semester but was ruled ineligible days before the season opener.
Rogatkin's only high school game action this season came in the Pinellas County private school all-star game. He was the North's second-leading scorer, with 25 points.
Patroits standoutoff to Jacksonville U.
Robert Joker, a 6-foot-4, 225-pound tight end/defensive lineman from Pinellas Park, signed a letter of intent with Division I-AA Jacksonville University, according to Patriots coach Matt Lance. Joker was named the team's most valuable receiver.
IRC volleyball sends four to college
Indian Rocks Christian coach Mark Foster announced that four of his graduating seniors will continue their careers in college after a season in which the Golden Eagles went 26-3 and reached the region semifinals.
In addition to Brianne Yeates, who signed with the University of Tampa in November, middle hitter Liz Schaner will attend Division II Eckerd, libero Jessica Jones is headed to Bryan College, an NAIA school in Dayton, Tenn., and libero Kindal Farver to Division II North Greenville University in Tigerville, S.C.
