Hubbard to interview at Blake
After being let go as Middleton football coach last month, Harry Hubbard was shocked. "I wasn't ready to give (coaching) up," Hubbard said.
Later this week, Hubbard will attempt to land another head coaching job. He said Tuesday he will interview at Blake, Middleton's archrival.
Hubbard, who turns 58 this month, was 35-33 in seven seasons at Middleton. The Tigers are coming off a 2-8 season, only the second losing season in his tenure at Middleton. Hubbard was 5-1 against Blake.
The Blake position opened when Sean Washington stepped down in November after going 10-30 in four seasons, and only 1-9 last fall.
"I have all due respect for the previous coaches that were there," Hubbard said. "If I'm selected, I would definitely try to do my best to try to turn the program around."
Raga key to Bulls' success
The Bloomingdale boys basketball team enters today's game at King 12-2, and according to coach Josh Chapin an early-season position switch has had a lot to do with the success. After a loss to rival Newsome on Dec. 4 dropped Bloomingdale to 4-1, Chapin and his staff moved 6-foot-5 senior Joe Raga, who had played shooting guard and power forward, to point guard.
Since then, the Bulls are 8-1.
"At 6-5, he's very hard to trap, he sees the floor well and is probably the best passer we have," Chapin said. "Moving him (to point guard) was big for us."
Raga, who is being recruited by a handful of Division II schools, is second on the team in scoring (15.9) and rebounding (6.5), and first in assists (4.9).

Analyst high on Hawks star
After watching Armwood LB Petey Smith in Sunday night's Under Armour All-America Game in Orlando, Rivals.com national recruiting analyst Jamie Newberg had this to say: "He's deceptively fast. People look at him and they don't think middle linebacker. But he can run for his size and plays well. He doesn't wow you with his 40 time, but he has good football speed and is a big-time hitter. … If he can control (his weight) he's going to be a big middle linebacker for somebody."
