North Suncoast high school tennis players compete for district titles

High school tennis players took to the courts Wednesday for the district tennis championships. The Class 3A, District 6 competition at River Ridge High School in New Port Richey included eight teams and featured girls and boys, in singles and doubles matches, from River Ridge, Central, Land O'Lakes, Leesburg, Mitchell, Springstead, Sunlake and Zephyrhills high schools. In the Class 2A, District 6 championship round, all but the girls No. 1 doubles final took place. Three-peat champs Pasco led district runnerup Hernando with the No. 1 doubles match featuring players from both of those teams scheduled for today at 8 a.m. Pasco and Hernando each won two singles matches. In the Class 4A, District 5 tournament, Wiregrass Ranch's boys swept the competition to claim their fourth straight district title. Wiregrass Ranch will host Plant in Tuesday's regional.
