Rask, Bruins blank Rangers

BOSTON — Tuukka Rask stopped 30 shots for his second shutout, Patrice Bergeron scored a first-period goal, and the Bruins won their fifth straight by beating the Rangers 3-0 on Thursday night.

David Krejci and Loui Eriksson also scored for Boston, which has earned points in nine consecutive games (6-0-3). It was Rask's 25th NHL shutout.

"He was really good for us (Thursday)," coach Claude Julien said.

Cam Talbot made 29 saves for the Rangers, with top goalie Henrik Lundqvist getting the night off. New York began a stretch of three road games in four days.

New York has lost 3-0 in consecutive games after winning five straight and 13 of 14.

"I think any time it goes two games, no matter what the score might be, I think we ought to get back to the basic, back to simple hockey, the way we were playing when we were winning," Rangers forward Rick Nash said.

game highlights: Henrik Sedin had a goal and an assist, and Ryan Miller made 29 saves to lead the visiting Canucks to a 4-0 victory over the Flyers. Vancouver snapped a three-game losing streak. ... Devan Dubnyk stopped 18 shots in his Wild debut, Jason Pominville had three assists against his former team, and visiting Minnesota snapped a six-game skid with a 7-0 win over the Sabres. Buffalo has lost nine straight, all in regulation. No NHL team has done that since the Oilers lost nine straight in regulation from Feb. 25 to March 15, 2007, Stats said. … Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored his first goal of the season to help lead the host Senators past the Canadiens 4-1.

Around the league: Predators goalie Pekka Rinne, who leads the NHL with 29 wins, will miss three to five weeks with a sprained knee suffered Tuesday against the Canucks. Rinne also entered Thursday second in the league with a 1.96 goals-against average and a .931 save percentage, and Nashville was tied with the Ducks for No. 1 in the league. … Ducks defenseman Sami Vatanen was fined $3,393.82, the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement, for elbowing Maple Leafs forward David Booth in the head Wednesday.

All-Star Game: Goalies Marc-Andre Fleury of the Penguins and Jaroslav Halak of the Islanders were chosen to replace injured Pekka Rinne of the Predators and Jimmy Howard of the Red Wings in the Jan. 25 game at Columbus, Ohio.
