Crosby leads Pens over Stars

PITTSBURGH — Sidney Crosby broke the game's final tie and had two assists as the Penguins beat the Stars 6-2 on Thursday.

Crosby scored his league-leading 16th goal in the second period and Pittsburgh scored three goals in the game's final 4 minutes to avoid consecutive regulation losses for the first time this season. Marc-Andre Fleury made 33 saves as he won for the first time in five starts.

Game highlights: Jack Eichel scored two goals in the third and the host Sabres beat the Rangers 4-3 for their second straight win. Buffalo's streak coincides with the return of Eichel, the No. 2 overall pick of the 2015 draft, who missed the first 21 games with a high ankle sprain. … Mark Letestu and Leon Draisaitl each had two goals, and league scoring leader Connor McDavid had three assists as the Oilers beat the host Jets 6-3. Jets rookie Patrik Laine, the second overall pick in June's draft, had two goals to lift his season total to 15, a goal behind Sidney Crosby for the NHL lead. … Aleksander Barkov scored 2:04 into overtime to give Florida to a 2-1 win over the host Red Wings and interim coach Tom Rowe his first victory.

Around the league: The players union is expected to reject the NHL's proposal to extend the collective bargaining agreement in exchange for Olympic participation in 2018, ESPN reported.
