KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Former Ray James Shields cooled down the hot-hitting Rockies over seven sharp innings, and Lorenzo Cain and Salvador Perez homered to lift the Royals. Shields allowed one run on Justin Morneau's RBI single in the fourth inning. He followed by retiring the final 10 batters he faced, striking out the side in the sixth inning and fanning Troy Tulowitzki for the 1,500th strikeout of his career. Alcides Escobar added two RBIs and former Ray Wade Davis and Aaron Crow wrapped up the win for Kansas City, which was opening a nine-game homestand, its longest so far this season.
