KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Royals just refuse to go away.
One night after a tough, sloppy loss, Kansas City righted itself with a three-run burst with two outs in the first inning Wednesday night and rolled to a 7-2 victory over the Indians.
It was the Royals' fourth run, scored on a double steal, that will make the highlight shows, but Salvador Perez's two-out, two-run double in the first inning set the tone.
Ahead 4-2, Kansas City blew it open with a three-run eighth inning after rightfielder Ryan Raburn dropped a routine fly. The Royals moved within 2½ games of the Rangers for the AL's final wild-card berth.
Left-hander Bruce Chen worked into the sixth before five relievers combined for four scoreless innings.
The Indians hurt themselves with some sloppy defense, including a botched rundown on the double steal. Alcides Escobar avoided the tag of catcher Yan Gomes to steal home while Alex Gordon, who was caught in the rundown, stole second.
