SAN DIEGO — Former Ray James Shields scattered seven hits over seven innings, and Eric Hosmer drove in a season-high four runs for the Royals. Kansas City scored three in the first, plenty for Shields, who bounced back from his worst start of the season in an 8-2 loss to the Tigers. The Padres were shut out for a major league-high sixth time this season. San Diego has lost six of eight overall.
