Saints save biggest hits for selves
NEW ORLEANS — The stern message from coach Sean Payton and Drew Brees left no doubt about the Saints' postseason aspirations, even after Brees threw for five TDs to beat the Bills.
"It's good when you can not play your best and make certain mistakes and still win like we did," Brees said after finding tight end Jimmy Graham and rookie receiver Kenny Stills for two TDs each. "If we continue to repeat these mistakes they will get us beat."
New Orleans had a handful of pre-snap penalties, two missed scoring chances and two instances of having only 10 men on the field.
"When you have eight penalties … and you can't get the right amount of people on the field, then those are things that certainly go against saying you have your swagger," Payton said.
Bills quarterback Thad Lewis was sacked four times and appeared shaken up at times but stayed in.
"We're a resilient team, but being resilient is not good enough," Lewis said.
