Rowdies' fan, seating event on tap for February

The Tampa Bay Rowdies will host their annual Select-A-Seat event Feb. 25 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Al Lang Stadium. Fans can tour the stadium and pick their 2012 season seat location. Rowdies players will be on hand to sign autographs and meet fans.

The Rowdies' season starts April 7 at Puerto Rico with the first home game April 14 vs. FC Edmonton. For more ticket information, call (813) 287-1539 or email tickets@fctampabay.com.

TAMPA — What's in a name? To Tampa Bay "Rowdies" owner and team president Andrew Nestor, it is almost everything.

Tampa Bay's professional soccer team — initially introduced as the Rowdies before becoming embroiled in a trademark infringement lawsuit that forced the team to be renamed FC Tampa Bay — can now officially be called the Rowdies in homage to the old NASL club that filled Tampa Stadium and was the area's first championship team.

FC Tampa Bay acquires trademark to use Rowdies name

TAMPA — FC Tampa Bay will unveil a new name and a new look Thursday.

The professional soccer club, which completed its second season in the fall, will announce it has acquired the trademark to use the Rowdies name at a news conference on Thursday.

United Soccer Leagues brings team to Tampa, joining FC Tampa Bay

TAMPA — Is Tampa Bay big enough to support two professional soccer franchises? That question will arise in 2013, when United Soccer Leagues is slated to bring a team to Hillsborough County.

The USL, organizer of several leagues and based in Tampa's West Shore district, awarded a Tampa-based Pro franchise to UK-based VisionPro Sports Institute, it was announced Wednesday at the Tampa Bay Sports Commission.
