3A boys soccer: Berkeley starts scoring early in romp

TAMPA — Berkeley Prep (12-8-3) jumped on Frostproof early Thursday and never looked back on its way to a 5-0 victory.

Austin Chen started the scoring in the fourth minute, receiving a pass from T.J. Roehn and burying a shot from the corner of the goalie box.

"That first goal definitely fired us up," said Chen. "It's pretty rare for me to score; it was only my third goal of the season so it was pretty exhilarating."

Roehn scored the second goal in the 21st minute. He controlled a cross from midfielder Jordan Tannenbaum before turning and firing past the goalkeeper.

"Jordan made a nice pass and I had time to settle and score," said Roehn. "We're always saying it doesn't matter who's the better team, it's who works the hardest."

Justin Vogel scored the final goal of the first half off a corner kick and a deflection by Roehn.

Berkeley added two more goals in the second half. Daniel Felman scored from 20 yards and Frostproof deflected in an own goal off a throw-in from Chen.
