PALMETTO — Palmetto used a pregame play for an early goal, then poured on the offense in a 5-0 shutout over Steinbrenner in the Class 4A region quarterfinals Thursday.

Keeper Brandon Tarpley jump-started the Tigers (18-2-2) with a booming kick, following a save that caught the Warriors off guard. Junior Brandon Waddy looped a header over Steinbrenner keeper Michael Ruggles for a third-minute goal.

"There were times we looked great, and there were times we looked young," Warriors coach Chad Ebright said. "… We knew it was going to be tough, we knew how fast they were and how good in the air they were, and that's what got us."

Palmetto pressured Steinbrenner (11-4-2) with an attack that yielded 13 first-half shots to the Warriors' three.
