Rowdies tie Miami, keep pace for final NASL playoff spot

MIAMI — The Rowdies came back from a 2-0 deficit on goals by Georgi Hristov and Juan Guerra to tie host Miami 2-2 on Friday night and create a three-way tie for the fourth and final NASL playoff spot.

With 38 points, the Rowdies (9-9-11) are tied with Minnesota and Rayo OKC with three games left in the season.

Jamie Chavez opened the scoring in the 16th minute. Blake Smith sent over a cross, and the Miami forward struck the ball on the volley, sending it past Rowdies goalkeeper Matt Pickens.

Kwadwo Poku gave Miami a two-goal lead in the 21st minute when Chavez slotted the ball to Poku, who found space in the box and sent his shot to the right corner of the goal.

The Rowdies got on the board six minutes later. Hristov, Tampa Bay's leading scorer, got his 10th goal of the year when he put in a cross from Eric Avila.

Tampa Bay scored the tying goal in the 66th minute. Guerra was unmarked at the top of the box as Joe Cole played the ball into his path. Just inside the box, Guerra sent his shot past goalkeeper Daniel Vega.
