2A softball: Prolific first innning can't sustain Indian Rocks Christian

Prolific first inning can't sustain Golden Eagles

LAKELAND — Lakeland Christian answered Indian Rocks Christian's big first inning with eight in the second and went on to an 11-7 Class 2A region quarterfinal victory on Tuesday at the Westside Softball Complex.

With the victory, LCS (18-4) takes on Bishop McLaughlin at 7 p.m. in the region semifinals Friday at the Westside Complex.

Trailing 7-0 after the first, LCS used a two-run single by Shelby Pierce and a three-run triple by Zoe Wilson to lead an eight-run second.

That was all ninth-grade pitcher Helen Long needed as Indian Rocks managed two hits the rest of the way.
