5A-7 district softball: River Ridge makes early lead stand

River Ridge jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 9-1 victory over Central on Tuesday night in a Class 5A, District 7 semifinal at the Jim Valentine Athletic Complex in New Port Richey.

River Ridge, the defending champ, will be making its eighth appearance in the final in the past nine seasons. It will face the winner of today's game between top-seeded Land O'Lakes and Ridgewood, a 5-4 winner over Wesley Chapel.

The Royal Knights (20-6) scored four runs in the first inning behind the hitting of Jessica Tamburri (hitless in her previous three games) and Ashley Garland.

With Ana Alberti (10-4) shutting down the Bears (7-18), the Royal Knights turned a 5-1 game into a 9-1 romp with another four-run inning in the fifth.
