5A softball: Land O'Lakes strong, then falls in 12th inning

LAND O'LAKES — It took 12 innings, but Bloomingdale finally scratched across a run against Land O'Lakes.

And one was all it needed.

The Bulls broke a scoreless tie in the top of the 12th to advance to the region semifinals with a 1-0 win at the Gators on Tuesday night.

Despite coming in with a team batting average of .378, the Bloomingdale bats had no answer against Land O'Lakes starting pitcher Michelle Bradley.

The Bulls loaded the bases in the first inning, then didn't threaten again until the 12th when McKenzie Carter drove in Destani Frye for the winner with a hard two-out single to left.

Bradley allowed just six hits in her 12-inning complete game performance.

Bradley added 14 strikeouts, but her counterpart was even more dominant.

Bulls starter Kaylyn Camacho also allowed just six hits, but struck out 20 Gators in her complete game performance.

Land O'Lakes almost ended the game in the bottom of the ninth when Sam Adamo smashed a hard single to center, but Jordan Alexander threw a strike to nail Meghan Sfraga at the plate to end the inning.

No. 9 hitter Lauryn Turcotte was the only Gators player to collect more than one hit as she finished 2-for-5.

Jordan Alexander had two singles to lead Bloomingdale while Hannah Hensley drew four walks in her six at-bats.

ST. PETERSBURG — Saturday's game got away starting with a leadoff walk in the seventh inning by Rays LHP Jose Alvarado, who was brought in exclusively to face Baltimore's lefty-swinging Seth Smith.

Rays reliever Jumbo Diaz wipes his face as he walks off the mound after the Orioles score four during the seventh inning to give them a 7-3 lead. Diaz was one strike away from working out of the jam before he allowed a two-run double and a two-run homer on back-to-back pitches.
