A softball: Hopps' timely hitting keeps Seffner Christian alive

Class A

Hopps' bat keeps Crusaders alive

WINTER HAVEN — All Saints' couldn't contain Seffner Christian's bats, as the Crusaders won 9-7 Tuesday night in the Class A region quarterfinals.

Led by Nikki Hopps' 3-for-3, five-RBI performance, Seffner Christian rallied for a big sixth inning to steal the game that ASA mostly led until the late innings. Hopps came up to bat with the bases loaded and ripped a bases-clearing triple to give Seffner Christian the lead for good.

"We needed to keep people off base that inning," said All Saints' coach Bill McClellan. "(Hopps) is good. …We gave up one run to her earlier, but then she made us pay with the bases loaded."

All Saints' scored two runs in the first two innings. The Crusaders tied after scoring four in the fourth. All Saints' retook the lead 6-4 in the third and added another in the fifth.
