Chamberlain High senior Madison Gonzalez's home runs lead to state title

Girls do dig the long ball. During her wild weekend stay in Clermont, Chamberlain senior Madison "Madi" Gonzalez hit four of them. In what may go down as one of the greatest solo efforts in Florida state tournament lore, Gonzalez (four home runs, 11 RBI) helped the Chiefs cap a 27-5 season that was equal parts dazzling and dominant with a Class 7A state title. Coalescing behind a concise mantra ("Finish"), the Chiefs rallied from four-run deficits in both state tournament games. The title clincher: a two-out, two-strike, two-run homer by Gonzalez in the top of the seventh inning of the title contest, lifting Chamberlain to a 9-8 victory against Bartow.
