BRIAN CASSELLA | Times

Pitcher Kaylyn Camacho has been a key to Bloomingdale’s success all season.

Softball region finals

All games at 7 tonight. Admission is $6.

6A: Melbourne Eau Gallie (23-2) at Riverview (18-10)

Path to this point: Eau Gallie defeated Apopka (11-1) and West Orange (4-0); Riverview defeated Mitchell (5-3) and Countryside (2-0).

Need to know: Commodores ace Lexi Carroll struck out eight and allowed just two baserunners in a victory against West Orange to avenge last year's playoff loss. And that smell? Eau Gallie players are not washing their uniforms this postseason, according to a report by Florida Today. So don't feel sorry for the Commodores when they show up with stains on their shirts. … The Sharks have a young, feisty nucleus led by the bats of sophomore Kayleen Boatwright, junior centerfielder Briana Bell and freshman ace Taylor McCoy. All were instrumental in Friday's win over Countryside.

5A: Bloomingdale (22-8) vs. Auburndale (22-4)

Path to this point: Bloomingdale defeated Land O'Lakes (1-0 in 12 innings) and River Ridge (4-1); Auburndale defeated Oviedo Hagerty (4-2) and George Jenkins (3-2 in 10 innings).

Need to know: Another one of those young teams, Bloomingdale went to work and advanced with a win over River Ridge. Bulls ace Kaylyn Camacho has been solid all season and logged six more strikeouts in her win against the Royal Knights. … Auburndale defeated George Jenkins for a fourth time, this one in 10 innings to advance to tonight's game. Eagles ace Brittany Alderman struck out 13 in the victory.

5A: Plant (22-6) vs. Venice (21-7)

Path to this point: Plant defeated Palm Harbor University (1-0) and Chamberlain (4-0 in 10 innings); Venice defeated Seminole Osceola (5-1) and Manatee (6-3).

Need to know: After three losses, Plant finally broke through, knocking off Chamberlain for the Chiefs' third loss of the year. Panthers centerfielder Erica Arcuri won the game with a bases-clearing hit. Panthers ace Kayla Suskauer went the distance in a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts. … After losing a ton of talent from last year's near perfect team — a 31-1 finish with a loss in the state final — Venice stunned some Friday with a win against Manatee.

A: Cambridge (18-7) vs. Canterbury (20-6)

Path to this point: Cambridge defeated Lakeland Sonrise Christian (5-4) and Seffner Christian (7-5); Canterbury defeated Bradenton Christian (9-1) and Sarasota Christian (9-4).

Need to know: Cambridge avenged a loss to Seffner Christian and the result is a continuing run in this 14th consecutive trip to the playoffs. … Canterbury pitchers Krissy Longstreet and Emily Winesett combined for eight strikeouts and a walk in a win over Sarasota Christian.

  2. Tim Tebow Week: 12 stories from his Tampa Bay tour

    Minors

Alas, Tim Tebow Week — eight baseball games in eight nights that reunited Tebow with his Tampa Bay friends and admirers — is over. The fun ended Thursday night.

  3. Bucs journal: Kicker Nick Folk has up and downs against Jaguars

    Bucs

JACKSONVILLE — If the Bucs had hoped for a drama-free night in their kicking game, they'll have to wait another week.

Bucs kicker Nick Folk celebrates one of his two made field goals against the Jaguars, but he also misses a field goal and has an extra point blocked.
  4. Bucs top Jaguars behind strong first half

    Bucs

    JACKSONVILLE

There is a reason why the air in Tampa Bay is filled with playoff talk. If Thursday night's 12-8 Bucs preseason win over the Jaguars is any indication, it's also going to be filled with footballs thrown by quarterback Jameis Winston.

Doug Martin gets the Bucs’ only touchdown on a 2-yard run, squeaking past linebacker Telvin Smith in the first quarter. He has five carries for 30 yards.
  5. Rays journal: Archer has strong outing, with two mistakes

    The Heater

TORONTO — Two pitches RHP Chris Archer didn't execute are the ones that stood out Thursday as Josh Donaldson hit them out of the park. But the two solo home runs aside, Archer turned in a sterling outing that went atop the pile of good pitching the Rays keep wasting.
