Sides set up Monday talks

NEW YORK — The NHL and the locked-out players association planned Saturday to return to the bargaining table Monday. "The meeting was requested by the union, and it's their agenda," deputy commissioner Bill Daly said.

That came two days after reports surfaced that commissioner Gary Bettman had floated the idea of taking a two-week break in talks, last held a week ago today. Daly said there wasn't much truth to the reports. The union responded it was ready to meet at any time.

The Philadelphia Daily News reported Flyers chairman Ed Snider, once seen as a supporter of Bettman's push to rein in the players' share of revenue in a new collective bargaining agreement, has soured on the process and may be ready to lead a group of owners against the hard liners to get a deal. The Flyers' majority owner is Comcast, which owns NBC, which is the league's broadcast partner.

Snider said in a statement the Daily News story is "absolutely erroneous."
