WINNIPEG — The Jets rallied from a two-goal third-period deficit to edge the Blues 4-3 in a shootout Friday night.
Evander Kane and Tobias Enstrom had goals in the third to tie the score at 3 for the Jets, who had lost four of their previous five after winning their first two games of the season.
Olli Jokinen scored in the first period and got the winner in the seventh round of the shootout.
"I thought our guys showed good character in keeping it simple," Jets coach Claude Noel said. "We were patient, and I think that's a really good lesson for us."
Winnipeg native Alex Steen scored twice for the Blues.
Jets defenseman Jacob Trouba was taken off the ice on a stretcher after crashing into the boards headfirst in the first period.
Trouba, Winnipeg's top draft pick in 2012, went for a check on Blues defenseman Jordan Leopold as Leopold chased the puck. Trouba missed him and fell.
Trouba was taken to a hospital. He was alert, communicating and moving all his limbs, the team said.
"I think everything's fine," Noel said.
The crowd chanted "Trouba" as the Jets players gathered around goalie Ondrej Pavelec after the game.
The Jets played most of the third period and overtime with only four defensemen after Mark Stuart left the game early with what was believed to be a rib injury. He seemed to be favoring his ribs after he crashed into the net on a backcheck.
Discipline roundup: Blues forward Max Lapierre was suspended for five games for boarding Sharks defenseman Dan Boyle on Tuesday. He served the first game while awaiting an in-person hearing Friday. Boyle was taken off the ice on a stretcher and spent the night in a hospital. The former Lightning player, who has said he is okay, missed the Sharks' 4-3 shootout loss to the Stars on Thursday. … Avalanche wing Cody McLeod was offered an in-person hearing for boarding Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall on Thursday. In-person hearings are offered when a suspension could exceed five games. The hit got McLeod thrown out of the game. Kronwall was taken off the ice on a stretcher. He has a concussion and cuts to his right ear, and is day to day, the team said.
Around the league: Maple Leafs goalie James Reimer practiced after leaving Thursday's game with the Hurricanes 32 seconds in after colliding with a teammate. Reimer was hit in the neck and said he had a headache. He said he expected to be available for today's game against the Blackhawks.
