DETROIT — Justin Verlander shut down Chicago after the first inning and ex-Ray Delmon Young hit a tiebreaking three-run homer in the sixth for Detroit, which swept the three-game series and tied Chicago atop the American League Central. Alejandro De Aza hit Verlander's second pitch over the rightfield wall, but the Tigers ace allowed only three more hits and struck out 11 in eight innings.
