KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Victor Martinez, J.D. Martinez and Alex Avila drove in two runs for the Tigers, who have won four in a row against Kansas City. Rick Porcello retired his final 12 batters for the Tigers. Meanwhile, the Royals' James Shields allowed eight runs (seven earned) over 61/3 innings. It was his worst start since allowing 10 runs to the Tigers on Sept. 6. Billy Butler hit the first homer by a Royals cleanup hitter this year.
