CLEARWATER — Relying on its dominance in the relays and considerable depth in the sprints, Indian Rocks Christian's boys won their fourth straight team championship at the Class 1A, District 9 track meet Thursday with 192.5 points, 61 more than runnerup Calvary Christian.

The Golden Eagles swept the relays, winning the 4x100 meters (43.61 seconds), 4x400 (3:37.07) and 4x800 (8:35.47). IRC's Jacquan Fuller, a standout in football, took first in the 100 (11.07). He was among three Golden Eagles who finished in the top in the event.

"It's been a special group that's been around for awhile," Golden Eagles coach Bobby LaBrant said. "We have some rebuilding to do after this season, but we're enjoying the moment."

The endurance queen: Calvary Christian's Hannah Brookover completed an exhausting day with a distance triple crown in winning the 800 (2:21.90), 1,600 (5:23.07) and 3,200 (11.47.85). Her times were not among her best, but that had a lot to do with competition — or lack thereof — in most races. Brookover won the 1,600 and 3,200 each by more than 29 seconds. Her toughest challenge came in the 800 where she held off Indian Rocks Christian's Bobbi LaBrant to win in less than two seconds.

"For me, it was more about placing than recording personal records," Brookover said.

The 30 points she scored helped the Warriors win the team title, outscoring the Golden Eagles 190-162.5.

Battle through injuries: Seffner Christian's Jamari Johnson, one of the top throwers in the state, sprained his ankle two weeks ago at the Florida Relays. He overcame that to win the discus at 155 feet, 11 inches, which was 47 feet farther than his closest competitor. In the shot put, he took second in 45-1. Bishop McLaughlin's Will Beatty won in 48-10. Cambridge Christian's Josh Wolcott came back from a strained hamstring to win the long jump (21-2.25) and the triple jump (40-2).

Indian Rocks Christian's Bobbi LaBrant, the defending state champion in the pole vault, injured her hand on her final attempt in the finals when her spikes scraped her palm. The cut was significant but will not require stitches according to her father, Golden Eagles coach Bobby LaBrant.

Double winners: Seffner Christian's Noah Perkins won the 1,600 (4:29.35) and the 3,200 (9:41.52). Calvary Christian's Keely Durbak was first in the 100 (12.82) and 200 (26.51). Tampa Prep's Alyssa Moore won the 100 hurdles (17.91) and 300 hurdles (50.14). And Carrollwood Day's Elias Earley won the 200 (22.92) and 400 (51.84).
