ST. PETERSBURG — Admiral Farragut's girls track team has always done well at the Class A level.

Now, the Blue Jackets are showing they can compete against teams from all classifications, especially after outdistancing Lakewood 155.5-108 for their first team title at the fourth annual St. Petersburg City Championship meet.

"It was an impressive showing for us this early in the season," Admiral Farragut coach Phil Barnhill said.

The bulk of the Blue Jackets' points were accumulated by three athletes: Brittany McGee, Ashaunti Brown and Katie Barnett.

McGee, a senior, started her final season by winning all four of her events: The high jump (5 feet 2), long jump (18-1), 100-meter hurdles (14.62 seconds) and 300 hurdles (46.96). She also set meet records in the long jump and the 100 hurdles in earning MVP honors.

"I'm happy with where I'm at, especially with my time in the 100 hurdles," McGee said. "That has me excited about what I can do this season. But the biggest thing was to win the team title, something we've never done before."

Brown, a junior, won the discus (127-11) and shot put (38-0), setting meet records in both.

Barnett, a sophomore transfer from Shorecrest, won the triple jump (36-101/2), was second in the long jump (17-2) and 100 hurdles (16.74) and took third in the 300 hurdles (52.10).

Northeast's Hayley Brahm was dominant in distance events, winning the 800 (2:30.41), 1,600 (5:42.73) and running a leg on the first-place 4x800 relay (10.56.62).

Northside Christian's Morgan Brown set the meet record in the pole vault (10-7). Lakewood's 4x100 relay of Shakera Thompson, Tysheira Adams, Shydasha Speights and Jamesha Morrer won in a meet record 50.39.

On the boys side, Lakewood won their fourth straight team title, beating Admiral Farragut 149-106.

The Spartans' Jordan Williams, who won the long jump (21-81/2), the 300 hurdles (41.05) and was second in the 110 hurdles (15.36), was the boys MVP.

Admiral Farragut's Patrick McNamara won the 3,200 in 10:21 and the 1,600 in a meet record 4:39. St. Petersburg's Davon Conyers was the other boys athlete who won multiple titles, in the 100 (11.02) and 200 (22.22).

Boca Ciega's Victor Thompson and Kenyatta Anderson went 1-2 in the high jump, each clearing 6 feet to set the meet record.
