DETROIT — Phil Hughes pitched seven scoreless innings as the Twins defeated Justin Verlander for the first time since April 27, 2010, a span of 10 decisions. Hughes, who lost 14 games with the Yankees last year, won his fourth straight decision despite giving up eight hits. He got the win (and Minnesota ended a three-game losing streak) on Kurt Suzuki's two-run single off Verlander in the seventh.
