Joey Knight’s takeaways from USF-Elon

1. With Georgia Tech arriving next weekend with its triple option in tow, Elon's periodic rushing success (192 yards) might give Bulls fans cause for concern. On its second touchdown drive, the Phoenix covered 49 yards — all on the ground.  "We've got to learn how to finish," coach Charlie Strong said.

2. It appears as if Strong is taking advantage of the new NCAA rule allowing players to appear in up to four games without losing their redshirt. Eleven true freshmen played Saturday, including 5-foot-5 TB Johnny Ford, who led the Bulls with 43 yards on eight carries.

3. With a career-best four catches (for 45 yards), Tarpon Springs High alumnus Mitch Wilcox effectively began his quest to eclipse USF's season record for catches by a tight end (34, Trevor Hypolite).
