Twins Connor, left, and Jared Prince of Palm Harbor University both were undefeated state champions. Connor, who is older by 13 minutes, won the Class 3A crown at 132 pounds; Jared took the same title at 126.

Why we picked them: The twins were impossible to separate this year. They were the only Pinellas wrestlers to win state titles — Jared (66-0) at 126 pounds and Connor (65-0) at 132 — they both went undefeated and wrestled some of the best competition in the state.

Most impressive accomplishments: Jared, who won his second straight state title, gained national attention this season when he beat Dalton Macri of Canon McMillan, Pa., at the Buzz Hill Invitational. Macri was ranked No. 5 nationally by Intermat at the time; Jared now has top-10 rankings with three services. … Connor's most impressive feat came in the Class 3A state final. He faced second-seeded Justin Ramirez of Miami South Dade in the second round, then third-seeded Charles Cuthbert of Fleming Island in the semifinals. To win his first state title, he pinned Lakeland George Jenkins' Ethan Owen in 1:13 of the first period in the championship.

Did you know? Connor is 13 minutes older than Jared. Connor weighed 7.9 pounds and Jared 6.9, which according to dad Mark is big for twins: "It's the only time they've ever been called 'big.' " …The twins finished the season a combined 131-0 and had more than 100 pins between them (Jared 53, Connor 51). They also extended their undefeated streaks, winning the all-class meet in Kissimmee the week after state. …They were featured in Sports Illustrated's March 3 edition of "Faces in the Crowd."

Coach of the year

Brad Sakevich, Palm Harbor University. The Hurricanes took 10 wrestlers to state, a school record, and had the highest finish of any Pinellas school (fifth). They won two state titles in the same year, a school record that also tied the county record. They won their sixth straight district title and third straight county title. Sakevich put his team in position to succeed by taking it down to Miami for the District 16 Duals and to Kissimmee for the Knockout Classic, where the Hurricanes competed against wrestlers they would see again at state.
