NEW YORK — Brett Gardner hit a tiebreaking homer off All-Star ace Yu Darvish, and the Yankees won a rain-shortened game called in the fifth inning under bizarre circumstances. The Yankee Stadium grounds crew initially struggled to pull the tarp onto the infield, finally getting it in place 13 minutes into the rain delay after a worker was briefly trapped underneath it. After another 13 minutes the tarp was removed, and a restart time of 10:05 was announced, but eventually the rain resumed and the tarp came back out.
