Location details: In their shared home in Leesburg, Lake County, on April 07, 2012

What happened: Gayle had been staying with his sister and her fiance for three weeks when an argument turned violent. Penrod grabbed his gun & locked himself and his pregnant fiance in the bathroom. Gayle forced his way into the bathroom and hit Penrod in the face. Penrod fatally shot Gayle because he was in fear for life. Witnesses, including some of Gayle's relatives, agreed with Penrod's description of the events and he was not arrested.

The outcome: The case was referred to the State Attorney's office and Gregory Gayle's actions were deemed justified.

Trayvon Martin’s death became controversial because circumstances leading up to the shooting cast doubt on who was to blame.
