Well, for one thing, it's the coolest high school newspaper in all the land. Watch our video and find out more.
Just about everyone knows someone who has been bullied, in ways big and small. Understandably, though, many victims are reluctant to speak about their experiences. We found some who aren't.
New York University
New York, NY
Distance from home:
1,160 miles NE; but a quick plane ride
Four-year private university
Admission difficulty: Highly Selective
Size: med-large (21,269 undergrads)
Tuition: Arm + leg. ($38,765/year, $51,993 with room & board)
Typical Student: The Hipster, the “Artist,” the Socially Inept, the Nerd, the Real Artist, Foreign Kids, and everyone under the sun.
Pros: All the benefits of living in NYC plus: Beautifully located around newly renovated Washington Square Park. Intense and top-notch liberal arts education. Incredible study abroad opportunities. Very safe campus; tight security. Occasional elevator rides with Spike Lee and/or James Franco. Discount tickets to Broadway shows, movies, and museums. Seeing movies before they’re released to the rest of the world (and often for free @ NYU screenings). Chik-fil-A and Quiznos on campus. Also, free condoms EVERYWHERE.
Cons: Taking the subway to class. A couple of the dormitory buildings don’t have air conditioning. Walking home in a snow storm. Trying not to get run over by taxi cabs. Being accosted by hobos on every corner. Free condoms EVERYWHERE (it gets annoying).
Notorious for: 1960s-style activism. Sit-ins, lock-ins, protests, marches, and soap box speeches (shoutings) are all regular events on campus. Only a few protestors arrested this past year, which either means the demonstrators were successful or not radical enough.
Scene: For some reason, Thursday nights are the traditional party night. Lots of dorm/apartment parties. Broadway shows, movies, and coffee shops are usually flooded with NYU students from all majors.
Sports: Huh?... Actually, the Fighting Violets are active in basketball, lacrosse, wrestling, tennis, diving and a bunch of other sports. The NYU football team is undefeated... because it doesn’t exist. Actually it does, but it’s “non-tackle,” which doesn’t count. Although we’re proud of our teams, sports aren’t a priority. If you don’t like it, go to USC.
