Car: My mom’s car is a white 2000 Honda Odyssey minivan. The car is affectionately known as “Bessy,” as if she were a family member.

Where she’s been: She has logged more than a quarter-million miles, most of them driving around the Tampa Bay area. But Bessy also has taken my family of six on countless road trips up and down the East Coast and to the Midwest.

Her driveway companion: Recently, we bought a companion for Bessy, a gold 2002 Odyssey. We named her Clara-Bell, and she will, we hope, be my first car and be as dependable as Bessy in her prime.

Her future: We know very well that all good things must come to an end, and that Bessy is on her last wheels but I’m hoping for another 100,000 miles.
