Senior Matt Mitchell was never “the cool kid,” which he says caused him to bully others. 

She was a bully once. So was he.

They and other students in the Multicultural Club and Peer Mediation class at Dixie Hollins High wanted to raise awareness about bullying, but they wanted to do so in a way that didn’t just focus on the victims of bullying, but on the bullies, too.

“All all I wanted the video to achieve was helping someone else really realize that bullying is simply not okay,” said senior Matt Mitchell, who talks in his video about how he was picked on, and how that turned him into a bully.

Their efforts, guided by club sponsor Elda Yee and mediation class teacher Shana August, resulted in a video project posted on YouTube. The videos are personal testimonies, including one student who apologizes to a younger brother for standing by while he suffered at the hands of a bully, and another who describes the hurt of being bullied.
