Skinny: Ungro came up big when she was needed most. Despite a wrapped ankle, hyper-extended right arm and bruised ribs from taking a charge, Ungro scored 14 points in a 52-45 region semifinal win over Boca Ciega. With the Pirates focused on stopping top threat Tianah Alvarado, Ungro took up the scoring slack. Three days later, Ungro helped the Spartans to their third straight state final four when she scored a key three-point play in the fourth quarter against Lake Wales.

Shaddy Douidar, Tampa Prep High
Sport: Soccer
Skinny: The final goal of Douidar’s high school career provided Tampa Prep with another state title. He already had 30 goals on the year when he lined up for the decisive free kick on wet FieldTurf in the second half of Thursday’s Class 1A final at Melbourne High. “Coach (Doug) Smith told me to send it in and hopefully someone would get a foot on it,” Douidar recalled. Instead, the ball bounced in front of classmate Macsen Pritchard, who gestured as if he were going to strike it, duping the keeper and allowing it to slip into the left side of the net. It was all the Terrapins needed for a 1-0 victory against North Miami Beach’s Scheck Hillel.
