I've made a huge mistake
Researchers have discovered an area in the brain, called the lateral frontal pole, that appears to help humans determine whether they have made bad decisions, according to The Guardian (UK). People with a "bigger signal" in this region, described as the size and shape of a large Brussels sprout, "are better at switching tack," said Matthew Rushworth, a professor of cognitive neuroscience, who led the study at Oxford University.
In other words, people whose neural pathways to this region are more active are more likely to compare their actions with other possible actions, determine whether they have made the right decision and change course if necessary.
So now, if you do something dumb, maybe you can blame your neural pathways.
