Spring break camps for kids in Tampa

Doesn't spring break seem to catch us all by surprise every year? And then it's a mad scramble to figure out what to do with kids who are out of school for a week while you're not.

Luckily, several places around Tampa that will offer great camps for that week. Here's a list of the spring break dates and some camp offerings:
Hillsborough's spring break is April 25-29

Tampa Bay History Center : Did you know the youngest soldier in the Civil War was just 9 years old? Learn more stories about pioneer and Seminole kids in Civil War-era Florida during the History Center's Spring Break Camp, April 25-29. The camp is $150 for non-members/ $135 for TBHC members. It runs 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and extended care is available. For information and to register, contact Jennifer Tyson at (813) 675-8960..

Florida Aquarium AquaCamp The camp is designed for children in grades K-5th. Each AquaCamp day is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Morning and afternoon care is free, with early drop-off starting at 8 and late pick up until 5:30 p.m. This week's theme is Fishy Business. Explore fish diversity by looking at the different ocean zones. Find out how fish handle pressure and why some fish make their own light. Discover funny fish names, dissect a fish and travel to the beach. There's also a visit to Explore A Shore if weather permits. Cost is $200 for members, $265 for non-members and $35 for lunch all week. (813) 273-4015, education@flaquarium.org.
 

Bugging Out at MOSI: Spend the week celebrating the tiny, but wonderful, world of insects with the arrival of Harry’s Big Adventure: My Bug World! Kindergarten through third-graders will have the opportunity to experience the superpowers of insects. Spend the week discovering special skills and abilities of insects by experimenting with bug eyes, spider webs and camouflage. Fourth- through eighth-graders participating in the “Flying Fireflies & Battling Bugs” camp will look for inspiration from nature to design and build insect flyers based on butterflies or invent robotic insects that crawl and flip their opponents. Coast for both camps is $230 a week (all day); $170 members; $10 extra for before or after care. Visit campfun.org or call 813-987-6000 to reserve a space.

 Lowry Park Zoo offers spring camps with hikes, animal crafts and encounters. Check here on their website to download the forms needed. 1 Day Camp: are $55 for members, $65 non-member.  A two-day camp:  $85/ $95
