Reader's exchange: Her after-Christmas wish is for a white tree for her daughter

The holidays have come and gone, and now people are starting to put all their decorations away until next year. Lori of St. Petersburg is hoping that someone out there has a white Christmas tree they are ready to retire and would be willing to donate to her. She'd like to have it for her daughter, who would love to have an all white tree that she can decorate with blue ornaments next year. They have been saving blue ornaments for years, but when they looked to purchase a white tree, the trees were out of their price range. They have looked at thrift stores for one, to no avail. If someone has a white tree they no longer need, Lori says her daughter would treasure it and give it a loving home. She is able to pick it up in the Pinellas County area, and can be reached at (727) 420-5847.

With all of the wonderful groups that crochet for charity out there, someone is sure to answer this request. Josie of St. Petersburg is looking for a facility or organization that can use hand-crocheted hats for preemies or newborns. Josie also needs to know what type of yarn to use and needs a pattern. She can be reached at (727) 823-5292.

Calling all art aficionados! Steve has a friend who used to work for a major museum and sent him about 40 catalogs from museums throughout the world. He says the catalogs are all illustrated, featuring pictures of the works displayed in the exhibits and commentary on the artists and artwork. Steve is downsizing and would like to donate them, perhaps to an art teacher or other person who could put them to good use. If you are interested, Steve can be contacted at [email protected] to work out pickup or transportation arrangements.

The High Point Neighborhood Family Center's after-school program is in dire need of chairs. They can be folding, upholstered or anything really, as long as they can get 50 or 60 of them, as the reception area needs them as well. If you have chairs to donate, they can be delivered to 5812 150th Ave. N in Clearwater. If you need to speak to someone, please call Caroline Brown, program director, at (727) 533-0730.

Alice May wrote in on behalf of her condo in Winston Park in St. Petersburg. In the past, the condo held an annual sale of items belonging to the many residents there. Books were most plentiful. This year, they have decided not to hold the sale because it is a lot of work, so now they have about 200 books to donate. Alice says she prefers to give the books to another condo, nursing home, assisted living facility or any nonprofit charitable organization that can use them. The books are hardback and paperback, with fiction and nonfiction. If you are interested or would like more information, Alice can be reached at (727) 525-7943.
