Some fashionistas shop seasonally and purge seasonally, giving away all of their buys from last year, even if they were never worn, to make room for new ones. Others don't bother returning an ill-chosen gift and just give it away.
Luckily for shoppers on a budget, all of those rejected items end up at Repeat Performance for a fraction of their original price.
The South Tampa store combines gently used brand name clothing at discounted prices with a boutique setting for a "best of both worlds" experience. While some shoppers may associate brand names with exclusivity, owner Karen Gurney aims for the exact opposite. Her goal is not to hear any of her customers say, "I can't shop here." To make that happen, she is constantly changing and adding to her inventory, keeping a wide variety of sizes, prints, fabrics and styles from petite to plus-size, formal to casual.
From a python turquoise Versace bag ($495) and Miu Miu clogs ($595) to an Alice + Olivia butterfly top ($35) and INC color block shift dress ($39.99), the clothes and accessories range from high fashion to more popular but equally coveted names. Gurney encourages customers to mix and match them for an eclectic outfit and she offers the ambiance for it. Customers need to be buzzed in to enter the shop, which gives those inside more privacy while they're walking barefoot through the carpeted floors, picking and choosing what to try on as if in a friend's huge closet.
Since the key to a perfect outfit is its fit and not just a tag, Gurney also offers a convenient feature in its location. When a skirt's hem is a little too long or a blazer needs to be tightened at the seams, she lets customers walk out of the store still wearing the item to get properly fitted at the tailor next door.
