Animal Kingdom is part zoo and part theme park, with more than 1,700 animals across 250 species. From lions to dragons, dinosaurs and Yetis, the park represents animals real and imagined. Centered around the iconic Tree of Life, the 500-acre attraction is the largest Disney theme park in the world.
The park is divided into seven areas that pay tribute to animal conservation and wildlife: Oasis, Discovery Island, Africa, Rafiki’s Planet Watch, Asia and Dinoland USA; the Avatar-themed Pandora: Land of Avatar is expected to be completed in 2017. Animal Kingdom also has two must-see Broadway-quality stage shows, Finding Nemo: The Musical and Festival of the Lion King.
The park’s zoo-like setting can make temperatures unbearable certain times of the year (looking at you, summer), but the shaded walkways and air-conditioned observation areas on the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail are a great way to escape the heat while getting a close-up view of hippos, apes and giant bats.
