More in this neighborhood: Downtown St. Petersburg

One of St. Pete's swankiest spots, this renovated hotel opened in the summer of 2013 to large crowds waiting to schmooze on its rooftop bar overlooking St. Petersburg.

The place on Beach Drive consists of a 225-seat fine-dining restaurant called Birch & Vine on the hotel's first floor, and the more casual rooftop Canopy bar and restaurant on the top floor. In the main restaurant, which features a lobby bar and lounge as well as sidewalk seating for 50, appetizer prices run between $8 and $18, with entrees between $18 and $40.

The big draw at the Birchwood is that rooftop bar: There's a gorgeous view of Tampa Bay and a fun cocktail list. But it does get hot up there, so your best bet is finding a seat near the bar or under a cabana. And if you order food, know that there aren't formal tables throughout most of the space, so you'll have to do a bit of a balancing act with your food.
