This unspoiled nature park features 3 miles of trails and boardwalks on 245 acres along the shores of Lake Maggiore. Visitors can experience five Florida ecosystems: hardwood hammocks, sand pine scrub, pine flatwoods, willow marsh and lake shore. The park is part of the Great Florida Birding Trail and participates in the annual butterfly count with the North American Butterfly Association. There are picnic areas, a playground for tots and gift shop. Ecosystem Tram Tours, 1 p.m. Tue.-Sun., are $2. Overnight camp sites and cabins are available for rental. Take sun screen, a hat to shield you from the sun and water to hydrate especially if you visit during the spring and summer months. Trails close one-half hour before sundown. Also, during summer break, day camps are available for students starting in kindergarten.
