It's official. Jason Fernandez has an empire. Bernini, Green Iguana and Hot Willy's in Ybor City were joined in 2012 by Carne Chophouse in the historic 1912 El Centro Español Building. Steaks and chops take center stage, supported by nostalgia-inducing classics like garlicky escargots and trout almondine. But it's affordable, with a few nods to Ybor's past (a little chimichurri, some sofrito potatoes). Fernandez understands a couple of things clearly. People are looking for value: Entrees come with a soup, Caesar or wedge salad and a choice of side dish. And people in Ybor like their cocktails: The new restaurant has an extremely well-outfitted bar, with a savvy list of signature cocktails (the Ybor Rough Rider features Southern Comfort, amaretto and sour).
