Unfortunately, the historic Cuscaden Pool is scheduled to be closed during summer 2010 while officials deal with leaks. This is also affecting rooms in the facility near the pool, which is built above ground.

Cuscaden Park amenities include: soccer fields, a picnic area and playground. Cuscaden Park Activity Center offers the After School Activity Program (although none are schedule for summer 2010), a fitness facility and computer lab.

Cuscaden Pool has been at the center of community life in the V.M. Ybor neighborhood since the 1930s. Designed by architect Wesley Bintz, it is an oval shape and built above ground. The 25-yard pool features four lanes for lap swimming and has splash and water playground features for kids. Cuscaden is open seasonally. For a listing of classes, schedules and hours of operation, call (813) 242-5377. The pool is handicapped accessible.

The 6-acre Cuscaden Park is named after Ohio native Arthur Cuscaden, who moved to Tampa in 1878. He planted some of Tampa's first orange trees and later donated the grove for the park. For years, Cuban, Spanish and Italian cigar workers flocked to the park to play baseball and meet friends.
